The Board of Directors of Wallem Group announced in October that John-Kaare Aune will step aside as Wallem Group’s CEO, with his departure scheduled for January 2024 after a transition period. John- Kaare Aune, who joined Wallem in 2019 as Managing Director, Shipmanagement, assumed the role of Group CEO in January 2021.

Nigel Hill, Chairman of Wallem Group, expressed gratitude on behalf of the board for John’s leadership and dedication during his three-year tenure as CEO. Hill acknowledged Aune’s significant contributions to stabilizing Wallem’s operations and positioning the company for growth in the face of challenges within the maritime industry. Hill added, “We respect John’s decision, and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future.”

In his departure statement, John-Kaare Aune, outgoing Wallem Group CEO, mentioned the difficulty of his decision but noted that, with operations returning to normalcy after the pandemic’s impact, it was the right time.

Aune expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of Wallem Group, citing improvements in client service levels, continued digitalization of company services, and laying the foundation for Wallem’s journey towards decarbonization. He extended thanks to shareholders, the Board of Directors, clients, and colleagues for their support during his time at Wallem. Aune wished the Wallem Group and his successor success in the future. Following Aune’s departure, John Rowley was appointed to succeed him, effective from January 1, 2024. John Rowley currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Global Food and Transportation Divisions at NSF, previously holding the position of CEO at SAI Global Assurance. Before that, he spent eight years on the executive team at the Lloyd’s Register Group, serving as CEO of Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) and as the Group’s Asia Pacific President.

Nigel Hill, Wallem Group Chairman, expressed delight in appointing John Rowley as the next CEO, citing his extensive experience in the global maritime industry and his successful track record in accelerating revenue growth across various sectors. Hill and the Wallem Board look forward to working with Rowley to ensure the success of the next stage of Wallem’s journey.
