DNV approved Corvus Energy’s cyber security system

Classification society DNV has given the Norwegian energy storage company Corvus Energy’s cyber security notation on the control and monitoring system for Orca energy storage system (ESS) the type approval

ESS has met all the stringent safety, quality and performance requirements related to DNV’s cyber security rules for classification. Therefore, recieved the type approval by the society. Corvus Energy that is committed to providing the utmost security and protection for its energy storage systems has transformed its approach to monitoring and data analytics.

By installing the Corvus Vessel Information Portal and collecting data from hundreds of system installations, the ability to monitor and analyse system performance have been significantly improved and remote monitoring became an option.

Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Corvus Energy said, “Data collection and machine learning are key to gaining in-depth operational knowledge and real-time diagnostics of the battery system. Constant monitoring enables us to see that the system is used correctly, and it increases safety significantly as we can detect abnormal values ​​at an early stage and take action before they become critical.”

Cyber security rules will become mandatory for newbuilds contracted after July 1, 2024 by International Association of Classification Societies (IACS).
