Indian gas company H-Energy inaugurated country’s first floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, on May 1st. As known, H-Energy and French multinational electric utility company Engie had signed an agreement in 2017 for chartering of Engie’s floating storage re-gasification unit (FSRU) GDF SUEZ Cape Ann for the duty, for a minimum five-year-period.

The FSRU, which has a capacity of 145,000 cbm, arrived at the west coast port of Jaigarh in Maharashtra, on April 30st. The vessel has its re-gasification equipment to operate the project at approximately 4 million tons annually. According to H-Energy, launching of the FRSU set a new era in India’s LNG industry. Niranjan Hiranandani; Chairman of the Hiranandani Group that administrates H-Energy; “Growth has to percolate to the common man and has to contribute to the progress of the nation,” commented at the terminal’s launching ceremony, which was honoured by Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

H-Energy authorities declared that the vessel will serve for providing India with gas and, by some technical modifications being planned at the moment, will enable bunkering vessels to load LNG. This will also provide the vessels in Maharashtra ports to be able to become compliant with the IMO’s 2020 Sulphur Regulations. They’ve also indicated that, the company has an option to extend the charter agreement beyond the initial term, too.
