First TRAnsverse series tug launched at Sanmar Shipyards Tuzla in Türkiye

Sanmar Shipyards Tuzla in Türkiye has launched a new tugboat, deemed the next generation of multi-purpose tugs. The TRAnsverse Tug boasts dimensions of a 25.8-meter overall length, 12.0-meter molded beam, 4.5-meter molded depth, and 6.3-meter maximum draft. These specifications allow it to generate greater steering forces compared to other similar-sized tugs and feature an innovative staple design.

The tug was designed by Robert Allan Ltd to meet Svitzer’s specifications, with contributions from Sanmar Shipyards. It offers an omni-directional hull form and propulsion, steering capabilities over a full range of speeds and maneuvers, and a unique towing arrangement. This makes the TRAnsverse Tug versatile for all types of harbor and terminal towage operations.

Equipped with two main engines compliant with Tier III emissions regulations, the tug is more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. It drives two ASD fixed pitch propellers and can achieve a bollard pull of 60 tonnes. The tug also emphasizes ease of operation for a crew of up to six.

Sanmar continues to lead in innovative tugboat technology, offering a range of tugs including Electric-powered ElectRA Tugs, LNG-fueled, hybrid, methanol, and autonomous tugs in its portfolio.

Ali Gurun, Chairman of Sanmar Shipyards, said, “We eagerly anticipate delivering the tug and comparing the performance of the TRAnsverse design with Tractor Azimuth and Tractor Voith design tugs. We are currently working on Electric, LNG, and Methanol-fueled as well as diesel tugs. We pride ourselves on advancing technology and using alternative fuels to move the towage industry toward a more sustainable future.”
