Yılport Puerto Bolívar expects to end 2020 with stronger results not only in banana exports but also in diverse cargo volumes. As of August 2020, each of Maersk and MSC have two services, and CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd have one new service calling the terminal. Seatrade and Baltic Sea are increasing their volumes to meet the demand from different destinations.
Yılport Puerto Bolívar’s growth has roots in huge projects in the last 3 years. The most significant ones are dredging and the installation of 4 Gottwald mobile harbor cranes. The current draft reached -14,5 meters. Under Yılport Holding’s administration, larger container vessels started to call Puerto Bolívar. The terminal will grow more in the coming years, after the construction of a new 450-meter quay, the arrival of 6 new STS cranes and 18 e-RTG cranes, deeper dredging, and additional equipment. The dredging target is to reach -17,5 meters to accommodate +20,000 TEU and 200,000 dwt vessels. Cold storage warehouse is dedicated to the banana and shrimp industries, offering 700,000 tons of annual capacity. Stacking area, pavement, substation, gate, lane are various construction works within Phase 1 expansion.
Along with increasing banana volumes, Yılport Puerto Bolívar also diversified cargo. The terminal started exporting copper concentrates from April 2020, and the port will move 33,000 tons copper concentrates per month from a single exporter. The terminal’s hinterland provides shrimp exports, where volume is expected to grow in the near future in addition to project cargo for the mining industry.
