During the Marintec China 2023 Chinese Jiangnan Shipyard shared the design for what has been described as the world’s largest nuclear-powered container ship design for the first time
The 4th generation Molten Salt Reactors used in the design weakens the possibility of a reactor meltdown from the outset as it operates under high temperature and low-pressure conditions.
According to China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the reactor of the design, which received approval from DNV classification society, can be swiftly stopped in case of an accident, thus will prevent further escalation.
