The TCG Anadolu, Türkiye’s largest warship and the world’s first unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) carrier, was delivered to the country’s navy in April.

Built at the Sedef Shipyard in Istanbul, the ship can carry helicopters, drones, land vehicles, light combat aircraft, and personnel.

Speaking at the delivery ceremony in Istanbul, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the TCG Anadolu, which can land and take off the largest and heaviest helicopters and drones, is the world’s first warship of its kind.

Turkish UCAVs Bayraktar TB3 and Kizilelma drones and Hurjet light attack aircraft can land and take off from the ship, he added.

Türkiye will be able to carry out military and humanitarian operations around the world thanks to the ship, which can also carry armored vehicles, the president said.

The ship’s weapon, battle management, electronic warfare, infrared search and tracking, electro-optical search, laser warning, torpedo defense systems, and radars have been developed domestically, he said.

As many as 131 subcontractors were involved in building the ship, Erdogan said, adding that it can carry a battalion to any crisis region in the Aegean, Mediterranean, and the Black Sea.

It also includes a full-fledged hospital facility and two operating theaters, the president said, adding that Türkiye will become a game-changer country by developing cutting-edge systems and products.

Weapons systems and sensors for the ships will be produced domestically, he said. He said that powerful diplomacy is only possible with a strong defense industry, adding that Türkiye will launch more projects in the defense industry.
