US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s response to a US proposal for peace talks in the ongoing conflict. In a post on Truth Social, he called the response “totally unacceptable”, without elaborating further.
According to Iranian state media, Tehran’s response focuses on an immediate end to the war on all fronts – including in Lebanon – as well as safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s most important shipping routes for oil and trade. Iran is also reported to have demanded the lifting of the US naval blockade, guarantees against further attacks and the easing of sanctions, including the ban on Iranian oil exports.
Meanwhile, two ships were allowed to pass through the partially blocked strait on Sunday, which may be a sign of limited de-escalation – though without a clear announcement of an actual reopening.
The conflict continues to cast a shadow over the region. Despite a ceasefire and a brief period of calm, hostile drones have again been detected over several Gulf states, underscoring the ongoing risk to shipping in the area.
