Baltic Exchange end week dry cargo indices: Tanker

BDI – 1,560 (1,895) – down 17,7%, 

Cape – USD 11,700 (USD 17,255) – down 32%, 

Panamax – USD 17,699 (USD 18,463) – down 4,14%, 

Supramax – USD 18,698% (USD 21,681) – down 13,7%, 

Handies – USD 19,046 (USD 21,224) – down 10,9% 

Abv numbers show the direction of the market. Everybody expects a perfect storm for the larger bulkers. While rates going down for those listed abv, we believe the war in Ukraine is showing unseen opportunities to smaller size of tankers and bulkers earnings huge income (i.e USD 134 / pt rate for smaller bulkers from Ukrain to Türkiye and much higher for the smaller tankers). A lot of smaller size Tankers in Continent have also entered into Black Sea market.

All tankers are enjoying the market but specificaly MRs are in demand. SS/DD passed BWT fifted 2008 blt MRs are getting sold at rgn USD 20 mill today. These ships were selling USD 12 mill back in March this year. Tanker

Capesize: “EKATERINI” (173,555 dwt, Bohai, Built 2012, BWTS fitted) has been sold to Klip Marine, Estonia for USD 32,5 m. Tanker

Panamax “KRITON” (73,975 dwt,Hyundai Samho, Built 2003) is sold for USD 15 m,  “BONANZA YR” (76,465 dwt, Tsuneishi Fukuyama, Built 2006) is going to Chinese for USD 16 m. Tanker Tanker

Ultramax: “NAUTICAL ANNE” (63,593 dwt, Jiangsu New Hantong, Built 2016) has been sold for USD 31 m. “ULTRA ALPHA” (63,203 dwt, New Times Shipbuilding, Built 2015) is sold for USD 27 m. Tanker

Supramax: “EQUINOX VOYAGER” (52,000 dwt, Brodosplit Brodogradiliste, Built 2002) has been concluded at USD 15,3 m, “SOPHIA K” (55,612 dwt, Mitsui, Built 2011) is sold to buyers in Dubai for USD 22,9 m. “ESHIPS PROGRESS” (56,897 dwt,COSCO Guangdong, Built 2012) has been sold for USD 18 m,  “TERESA OETKER” (58,018 dwt, Yangzhou Dayang, Built 2010) at USD 17,25 m and “DENALI” (53,800 dwt, Jiangsu Eastern, Built 2009) are sold for USD 16,1 m. Pac Basin’s “PORT BOTANY” (28,470 dwt, Imabari, Built 2001,BWTS & scrubber fitted) has been sold for USD 9,6 m, Syrians are paying USD 7,2 m “MARIA L” (28,404 dwt, Hakodate Dock, Built 1998) and “A RACER” (26,467 dwt, Guangzhou Shipyard, Built 1996) sold to Middle Eastern buyers for USD 6,8 m

“QUANTRA” (18,367 dwt, INP Korea, Built 2000) is sold to Turkish buyers at USD 6,25 m.

VLCC: “MARAN ANDROMEDA” (320,472 dwt, Daewoo, Built 2005) is sold for USD 37,2 m and Mitsui OSK’s “ALTAIR TRADER” (311,110 dwt, Mitsui, Built 2005) has been sold USD 36 m. National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia has agreed to sell survey-due VLCC “TINAT” (316,502 dwt, Hyundai H.I., Built 2002) for USD 20 m. “KIONI” (310,389 dwt, Imabari, Built 2004) has been sold at USD 29,5 m with delivery West Africa. 

Suezmax:  Stealth paid USD 33 million for “RIDGEBURY LINDY B” (146,356 dwt, Universal Japan, Built 2007, Ice class 1A), an older unit “SPM STRENGTH” (159,314 dwt, Hyundai H.I., Built 2002) is sold at USD 17 m with ss/dd due from Chinese. 

Aframax: “STRIDE” (105,369 dwt, Hyundai H.I.,Built 2009) is sold for USD 32 m, “STAVANGER FALCON” (105,419 dwt, Sumitomo H.I.,Built 2009) is sold for USD 29 m, “PROSPEROUS” (105,355 dwt, Built 2009) USD 28,7 m and “ORACLE” (105,380 dwt, Built 2008) are sold for USD 28,75 m. 

LR1 “ALPINE PENELOPE” (74,401 dwt, Sungdong Korea, Built 2008) is sold to Turkish owners at USD 21 m. 

MR “ORWELL” (51,745 dwt, Hyundai Mipo, Built 2010, BWTS fitted) is sold for USD 25 m. “JAL SASVATA” (46,590 dwt, Naikai Zosen, Built 2009) and “JAL UPASANA” (Built 2006) have been sold for USD 33,5 m in an en bloc transaction. Buyers paid USD 10,8 m for “STEFANIE” (37,248 dwt, Hyundai Mipo, Built 2003), the Ice Class 1A “ESTHER” (36,990 dwt, Hyundai Mipo, Built 2005) has fetched USD 11,5 m,“PRIORITY” ex “HIGH PRIORITY” (46,847 dwt, Naikai, Built 2005) has been resold for USD 13,4 m by principals who purchased her in March for USD 9,2 m.

Gas

LPG carrier: “BASTOGNE” (35,197 cbm, Hyundai H.I.,Built 2002) has been concluded at USD 19 m with ss/dd passed. “G. SYMPHONY” (83,000 cbm, Mitsubishi, Built 2011 ) is sold to Middle Eastern buyers for USD 56 m. The similar but older “GLOBAL CAPRICORN” (77,105 cbm, Daewoo, Built 2005) fetched USD 43,5 m. 

In a sale on subjects, buyers have agreed to pay USD 54 m for the turbine-driven LNG carrier “METHANE SHIRLEY ELISABETH” (145,488 cbm, Samsung,Built 2007). 

Containers

“KALLIROE” (1,740 TEU, 23,292 dwt, Guangzhou Wenchong, Built 2011) is sold for USD 35 m and “SONGA OCELOT” (1,706 TEU, 23,896 dwt, Aker Mtw Werft, Built 2007) for excess USD 30 m. “A KIBO” (1,708 TEU, 21,937 dwt, Imabari, Built 2008) obtained USD 30 m. 

Cruise

Royal Caribbean’s Silversea Cruises has won the bidding to purchase the luxury expedition cruise ship “CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR” (200 passengers, 100 cabins, MV Werften, Built 2021, 4 x Wartsila), a casualty of the Genting debacle, paying USD 275 m. According to press reports the vessel cost US$ 385 m to build.

New buildings

VLEC 99,000 cbm – two option two ethylene carriers ordered at Hudong-Zhonghua by Tianjin Southwest Maritime, about USD 130 m each, deliveries in 2025. 

LPG – NYK has ordered a 86,700 cbm LPG/NH3 carrier with dual fuel propulsion; this is the fourth in the series, delivery is scheduled for 2025, price about USD 90 m. 

LNG – prices continue to escalate, two units of 174,000 cbm have been ordered by ADS Maritime at Daewoo for deliveries from 11/2026 for employment a/c Mexican interests – price USD 248 m each. Six months ago we reported contracts at Daewoo for this size at USD 218 m apiece. 

Ultramax – U-Ming, Taipei is reaching across the Taiwan Strait with an order at New Dayang for two 64,000 dwt Crown design Ultramax types priced at USD 34 m each; delivery is scheduled for 2024. 

MR2 tankers – two of 50,000 dwt ordered by Helikon Shipping at Hyundai Vietnam, price reg. USD 42/42,5 m, deliveries FH 2025. 

Cont 2,500 TEU – Namsung, Korea has ordered two at Hyundai Mipo, deliveries SH 2024, price reg. USD 42,5-43 m per vessel.
