U.S. President Donald Trump's plan received support from Israel and European Union countries. The implications of the plan are as follows.

President Trump's 20-point plan, which he described as “very close to a solution,” calls for Hamas to quickly release the hostages in its custody and for Israel to withdraw from the Gaza Strip. According to the plan, Hamas will no longer play a role in governing the region, and Israel will not be allowed to annex the area. Instead, the Gaza Strip will be governed by a temporary government composed of Palestinian technocrats under the supervision of an international organization.

Israel accepted the plan. Netanyahu said, “I believe we have taken a decisive step toward ending the war in Gaza and laying the groundwork for significant progress toward peace in the Middle East.” The Israeli opposition also announced its support for the plan.

International reactions to the plan

Hamas has not yet responded officially to the proposal. According to the statement, Hamas plans to carefully review the plan before giving an official response. Trump said, “I feel we will get a positive response” regarding Hamas. However, it is not yet clear whether Hamas will actually accept the plan.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul described Trump's plan as a “unique opportunity.” Wadephul said, “There is finally hope for Israelis and Palestinians that this war could soon come to an end.” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Trump's initiative and called on Hamas to accept the plan. Starmer said, “The US initiative to end the war in Gaza is very welcome, and I am grateful to President Trump for his leadership.”

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair stated that if the plan is accepted, it could “end the war, bring urgent aid to Gaza, and offer its people a better chance for the future.” Blair said Trump's desire to chair a planned “peace council” that would oversee a transitional government in the Gaza Strip was “a strong signal of support and confidence in Gaza's future,” adding that Trump also wanted Blair to be a member of the planned “peace council.”

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Trump's commitment to end the war in the Gaza Strip and secure the release of all hostages. He stated, “Hamas has no choice but to immediately release all hostages and implement this plan.”
