Dispute over Lebanon’s status keeps the Strait of Hormuz closed

On Wednesday, Israel carried out more than 100 strikes in Lebanon, which, according to Iran, is in breach of the ceasefire agreement. As a result, the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. However, both the US and Israel deny that the ceasefire also covers Lebanon.

There is currently nothing to suggest that the Strait of Hormuz is set to reopen any time soon. Quite the contrary. The reopening was, however, a key condition for the ceasefire for US President Donald Trump when it was announced on Tuesday night.
