Europe's two major logistics hubs signed a letter of intent regarding their goals to develop sustainable transport corridors via waterways and undertake future-oriented initiatives for energy transition.

Close cooperation between the ports of Duisburg and Rotterdam continues to deepen. A new letter of intent (LoI) between the ports was signed recently in the presence of Hendrik Wüst, Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia. The letter, which is expected to benefit industry and the supply chain between and within Rotterdam and Duisburg, aims to develop sustainable transport corridors to advance the decarbonization of industry and strengthen the Rhine corridor as a cross-border logistics axis.

A new vision

Rotterdam Port, Europe's largest seaport, and Duisburg Port, the world's largest inland port, are expected to become central locations for hydrogen and CO₂ in the future and key partners on the path to climate-neutral industry.

In addition, it is emphasized that the North Rhine-Westphalia region will serve as a logistics hub for energy supply and military mobility in mutual defense for Europe, and will represent Europe, especially during this period of global turmoil. Another key focus of the agreement between the two ports is related to strengthening the Rhine corridor as a sustainable cross-border logistics hub. The Rhine corridor, which forms the backbone of Europe's energy supply, also ensures efficient and sustainable access to international markets for production facilities. As Europe's most important waterway, this corridor aims to secure the supply reliability and competitiveness of a wide range of companies throughout the entire value chain.
