China opposes the militarisation of the Strait of Hormuz

During the US visit to Beijing, US President Donald Trump and his delegation discussed, among other things, the situation in the Middle East with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told NBC News after a meeting on Thursday that the Chinese oppose the militarisation of the Strait of Hormuz and also reject the idea of charging a toll to pass through the strait.

According to Marco Rubio, China is also opposed to Iran developing nuclear weapons – an important common ground between the two major powers. Delegations from the two countries held a meeting lasting more than two hours in the Chinese capital on Thursday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has agreed to return to Washington in September.
