Agosta 90B Class Submarine PNS/M HAMZA (S-139), modernized by Turkey’s defense industry company STM for the Pakistan Navy, has sank a decommissioned frigate with a single torpedo shot.

During the SEASPARK-17 Tactical Exercise, which is held biennially by the Pakistan Naval Forces Command and which was carried out this year between February and March; guided missiles and torpedoes were fired at various targets.

The submarine PNS/M HAMZA (S-90), modernized as part of the Pakistan Agosta 29B Submarine Modernization (PADYÖM) Project and delivered to the Pakistani Navy on 2021 April 13, also participated in the exercises.

PNS/M HAMZA (S-139), equipped by STM, destroyed a TARIQ class ship (Type 2 frigate) with a single torpedo shot.

As part of PADYÖM, Integrated Underwater Command and Control (IUCCS & C2IS) System, Weapon Control (WCS) System, Sonar Systems, Periscopes (Attack and Navigation), Electronic Warfare, Radar, Ship Data Distribution System, STMDENGİZ Electronic Chart Display and Information System, Converters, Rudder Systems were successfully integrated onto the submarine.

STM won the tender to modernize the submarine against its main competitor – a French company which had designed and built the submarine in 2016. Despite the pandemic, the project went according to the planned timeline and acceptance tests and delivery of PNS/M HAMZA (S-139) were completed on time. Currently, the modernization processes of two other submarines under PADYÖM are under way at STM.
