Cargotec’s division Kalmar has secured a contract to supply six rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) to South Florida Container Terminal (SFCT) in the United States.
The zero-emission RTGs, which will be equipped with a busbar energy system and operator assist features such as auto steering and container stack profiling, are expected to be delivered early next year.
“We are excited about the opportunity to increase our capacity through this terminal redevelopment project. We will not only offer better service to our customers, but we will do it eco-efficiently with all-electric RTGs,” said South Florida Container Terminal managing director Mark Baker.
“Kalmar has proven their ability to handle large terminal redevelopment projects on a global scale with successful RTG deliveries,” he added.
The 100 percent zero-emission RTGs will be installed in the full-service South Florida Container Terminal located at the Port of Miami.
It is located close to the Caribbean and the Americas, and serves as a strategic point of entry and departure for cargo moving to the greater part of the world.
The terminal provides full stevedoring and terminal services to several shipping lines.
Kalmar will deliver its RTGs as part of an ongoing densification and redevelopment project at South Florida Container Terminal.
“We have worked extensively with the team at SFCT and are certain that our partnership will only strengthen further as we move through this major redevelopment project together,” said Kalmar Americas Sales Vice-President Troy Thompson
In January, Kalmar secured a contract to provide four RTGs to Exolgan’s container terminal in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
