Art festival Cappadox 2018 explores silence

MDN İstanbul

Cappadox 2018, a contemporary art festival which combines varying artful experiences, will take place in the breathtaking region of Cappadocia from 14 June through 19 June. Cappadox invites participants to shape their “own multi-disciplinary experiences” against the otherworldly Cappadocian landscape. In its fourth year, Cappadox participants will set out to explore ‘Silence’ through a broad range of music, contemporary art, gastronomy and outdoor programs.

Cappadocia’s magnificent rock formations -also called fairy chimneys- are the result of volcanic processes and continuous erosion that have occurred over many eons. Ashes from volcanic eruptions covered the area, creating tuff; the region’s raw material which is formed by compressed volcanic ash. Erosion shaping this soft rock has worked to create the fairy chimneys for which the region is so famous. Among the fairy chimneys are remnants of a vast history of human civilization: rock-carved churches, monasteries, caves and miles-long underground tunnels. For the festival participants, Cappadocia offers an opportunity to witness its ancient heritage which ecompasses a wide range of different cultures and civilizations from the Hittites and early Christians to the Persian and Ottoman empires.
